Library Employees
Working at a library is not anything like you would imagine. However on second thought, I can’t imagine anyone actually wondering what it would be like to work in a library. Well that is until I started working at a library and met the kind of people who work there. Have you met these people? I think you only find them in libraries. Now don’t get me wrong, they aren’t abnormal or anything, they are just special, quirky – you know – different. So you know the kind of people who sit in the break room reading large hardback novels for their entire lunch hour while they slowly munch on a tiny dish of reheated leftovers and it’s a new novel every week? Well everyone at the library does that – but it is incredibly strange because here you are in a library break room (with a TV, a microwave, a sink, a stove, an oven, a fridge, a Playstation, an air hockey table and a cappuccino machine I might add) and the idea is to take a break away from work. Are you getting this? PEOPLE, come on! So needless to say because I want to fit in with my new coworkers I will be bringing a book to work (a new one every week).
Wow, your library break room has a Playstation? Must be better funded than the last one I worked in.
And why bring a book to work when you can check one out?
Does your library allow people to read on duty? Mine didn’t, so during lunch was the best time to get through things we’d seen while reshelving and just had to look into more closely. That might explain some of the people grabbing reading material over break.
Break the mold. Go crazy….play air hockey. It’ll be a whole new world for them. And, can I just say, I think I might fit in at the library. I love to read.
